Cumberland Co., VA, Will Book 3, pages 36-37 --

In the name of God Amen. I Martha Flippen of the County of Cumberland Parish of Littleton being through the abundant mercy & goodness of God tho' weak in body, yet of sound and perfect understanding and memory do constitute this my last Will & Testament and desire it to be received by all as such.  Imfirmis I most humbly bequeath my Soul to God my maker, beseeching his most gracious acceptance of  it thro'  the all sufficient merits and mediation of my most compasionate Redeemer [p. 37] Jesus Christ who gave himself to be an attonement  for  my sins and is able to save to the uttermost all that come to God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them, and who I trust will not reject me a returning penintent sinner, when I come to him for mercy,  in this hope and confidence I render up my soul with comfort, humbly beseeching the most blessed and glorious Trinity, one God most Holy most merciful and gracious to pepare me for the time of my dissolution, and then to take me to himself, into that peace and rest, and incomparable felicity, which he has prepard for those who love and fear his holy name; Amen, blessed be God, imprimis, I give my body to the earth from whence it was taken, in full assurance of its resurrection from thence at the last day, as for my burial I desire it may be decent, without pomp or state at the discresion of my executors hereafter named; as bo my worldly estate I will and positively order that  my debts be paid.
Item, I give to my son Flippin a doctor book, Laxvinous  revivous , and one other book Rich wise man, ______  _______  _______  ________  _______
Item, I give to my son Francis Flippin's daughter Martha one Cow & Calf.
Item, I give to my daughter, Jane Carter one Featherbed & furniture and a religious  book called Flavel to her and her Heirs forever ______  _______  ________
Item, I give to my Son Robert Flippin's daughter Elizabeth, Watsons body of divinity and to his daughter Mahulda, one Cow and Calf, to them and their Heirs _____.
Item,  I give to my daughter Elizabeth Hudgin's daughter Salley one Cow and Calf.
Item,  I give to my Son Philip Flippen's daughter Judith one Cow and Calf to her & her Heirs.
Item,  I give to my Son Jacob Flippin one Featherbed & furniture, one Oval Table (cherry) half a dozen walnut chairs my wheat  fan  & Grind Stone, over and above what he has now in possession  as above, and to his Son John Armistead Flippin I give the half of land where on he now lives containing 157 acres to him and his Heirs forever.
Item, I give to my daughter Mary Hix my book called Burkitt's explanation of the New Testament.  And to my daughter Mary's Son Ralph Merriman I give one feather Bed & furniture and my Cart & shears.
I give  to be divided between Thomas & Ralf Merriman, Son to my daughter Mary
Hix, and if any remians of my estate after paying my debts and Legacies to be equally divided between my daughter Jane Carter, Robert Flippin, Phillip Flippin, Jacob Flippin, and Mary Hix.  And lastly I nominate and appoint my Son Jacob Flippin my hole [sic] and soul executor to this my last Will and Testament.  In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this seventh day of August one thousand seven hundred and ninety three.

This last will and testament of Martha Flippin deceased was exhibited in court by Jacob Flippin one the executors therein named and proved by two of the witnesses thereto & ordered to be recorded.
