Cumberland Co., VA, Will Book 3, page 80 --

In the Name of God Amen. The first day of July one thousand seven hundred & ninety four, I John Flippin of the County of Cumberland Being sick & weak in body Tho of sound and perfect memory of mind thanks be to almighty God, do make and ordain this to be my last Will and Testament, in manner and form following.
Item, first I desire all my Just Debts be paid, and those due me received or got in.  Item.  I lend to my loving wife Nancy Flippin the Tract of land and Plantation whereon I now live Containing one hundred & ninety three acres with its appertances also all my slaves & personal Estate let it consist in what kind or quality soever all which I lend to her during Natural Life.  Item. I give to my son Thomas Flippin all the land I have a right to claim in Kentucky by virtue of Samuel Rice's Bond for that purpose which Bond I desire my said son Thomas Flippin and his heirs forever may have full beneift off.  Item. I give to my son John Murray Flippin the land and plantation whereon I now live Containing one hundred and ninety three acres together with is Appertenances which I desire he may have after the Death of my said wife Nancy Flippin all which I give to him & his Heirs forever.  Item. my will & desire is that after the Death of my beloved  wife Nancy Flippin all my slaves & personal Estate together with its increase be equally Divided amongst my children namely Thomas Flippin, Patsey Johns, Hannah Flippin, Bettey Flippin, Sally Elcan Loyle, Nancy Murray Baughn, Lucy Hill, Jane Flippin, Rebeca Flippin, Judith Scott Flippen & John Murray Flippin, which I desire they and each of them & their heirs may Enjoy forever.  Item. my will & Desire is that all the slaves which I have a right to claim from my Father Ralph Flippin's Estate.  And which may be recovered from thence be Equally Divided with their increase amongst my Eleven children before named, which I desire they and their Heirs may Enjoy forever.  Item.  I constitute and appoint my friends John Ford, Thomas Johns, and my beloved wife Nancy Flippin, my hole [sic] and sole Executors & Executrix of this my last will and Testament.  In Witness whereof I have set my hand & seal the day & year above written.

At a Court held  for Cumberland County the 23 rd day of May 1796.
This Last Will and Testament of John Flippin deceased was exhibited  in Court by Nancy Flippin Executrix therein named and proved by  two of the Witnesses thereto and ordered to be Recorded and on the motion of the said Executrix who made Oath according to law Certificate is granted her for obatining a probate thereof in due form on giving security whereupon she with John Murray & Thomas Maddox her securities entered into according to law.
